Stem Cell HIV/AIDS Roundtable

The Stem Cell HIV/AIDS Roundtable was held March 7-8, 2007 in San Diego to bring together a select group of leading stem cell researchers and HIV/AIDS clinicians with experts from non-government, government, social science, academic and private industry organizations.

The Roundtable was designed to explore the role that stem cell treatment could potentially play in the fight against HIV/AIDS – in Africa and around the world. Scientific and clinical issues, current research and challenges, future direction and cultural, behavioral and policy issues were discussed. The group provided a set of recommendations that included the development of educational programs about stem cell research that target stakeholders and the general public. This unique consortium of experts and leaders will have a follow-up meeting to advance dialogue and interest in stem cell research for HIV/AIDS-related treatment applications.
